Discovery House Comprehensive Treatment Centers of Utah specialize in the treatment of opioid dependency in individuals aged 18 and older. Utilizing an all-inclusive treatment approach, Discovery House Comprehensive Treatment Centers of Utah use a combination of medication-assisted treatment and counseling in order to assist patients in progressing towards recovery. The following medications are available for patients to incorporate into their customized treatment plan:

Methadone:As an opioid agonist, methadone eliminates the physical symptoms often associated with the process of withdrawal while curbing cravings for additional opioid use. Because methadone will not cause patients to experience cognitive impairments, individuals who are prescribed this medication are able to play an active role in daily activities such as work and school.

Subutex: Subutex is a partial opioid agonist-antagonist that utilizes buprenorphine as its active ingredient. Blocking the effects that opioids have within an individual’s brain, Subutex provides patients with relief from withdrawal symptoms while eliminating cravings for additional opioid use.

Suboxone: Using a combination of buprenorphine and naloxone, Suboxone minimizes the physical symptoms of withdrawal while diminishing cravings for continued opioid use. Unlike the other medications prescribed in treatment, patients who attempt to abuse Suboxone will experience physical discomforts similar to those experienced during the process of withdrawal.

The specific medication that is prescribed as well as the dosage that is given will vary based upon the individual treatment requirements of each patient. Adjustments can be made during the course of treatment if necessary.

In addition to the medication-assisted treatment options available, Discovery House Comprehensive Treatment Centers of Utah also provide patients with the opportunity to take part in interventions which are designed to help patients progress in their treatment. Our staff of expert physicians, counselors, and nurses is specifically trained in the field of addiction and believe that in order for long-term recovery to take place, individuals must receive treatment for both the physical and the emotional components of their addictive behaviors. While the medication that is prescribed helps to alleviate the physical discomforts of withdrawal, the following services are available in order to assist patients in progressing in their treatment:

  • Individual counseling provides patients with the opportunity to work one-on-one with a highly qualified counselor in a safe and supportive environment. These sessions are designed to help individuals understand the root causes of their addictive behaviors in order to progress towards a future that does not include the use of opioids. Individual counseling  sessions also give patients the chance to address and treat any issues or concerns that may arise during the course of treatment.
  • Group counseling  sessions are counselor-led and bring patients together with other individuals who are also receiving treatment for opioid addiction. By working alongside of their peers, patients are able to obtain support and encouragement from other individuals who understand the overwhelming emotions that arise during the recovery process.

Discovery House Comprehensive Treatment Centers of Utah are here to assist you or someone you love in safely returning to an opioid-free state. Our team of experts assists patients in developing a customized treatment plan that works with the unique needs and traits of each individual patient.
